What were some of the best presents you ever received when you were a kid?

  1. Some of the presents I got as a kid that I still treasure are blankets. Mom tied me a blue star quilt that I still love and use.

A funny story: one Christmas I wanted a Mickey Mouse watch. I begged and pleaded for a Mickey Mouse watch. I then peaked in mom's closet and found a really cute brown and cream watch that I thought was cuter than any Mickey watch they would have gotten, so I was excited. But the morning of Christmas Eve (Melissa and I had slept by the Christmas tree the night before) Melissa overheard mom saying "Gary, we need to go pick up that Mickey Mouse watch today." Melis thought she was giving me good news, because I was dying for a Mickey watch! But I had seen the much cuter watch mom picked up before I insisted on a Mickey watch. I couldn't tell mom not to get it, or she would have known that I peeked in her closet. So I wore a Mickey Mouse watch for the next few years... wishing for that cute brown one. :)

  2. I remember mom making me many of my presents. Some of the highlights are...
    strawberry pillow case
silky night gown and robe, that had a small (or large) hole burned in it from the lights on the trees; yikes!

For some reason, the other two gifts I have a clear recollection of are, some silver loop earrings in my stocking and a ghetto blaster.
I also remember the orange in the bottom of the stocking and and peanuts.
Mostly I remember the excitement as Shane would come in and wake us up to go see what "Santa" had brought, even though we all knew he had already scoped the whole thing out!
    HA HA
